So, how can we make it just as meaningful in our homeschool?

Preparing Your Homeschool for Easter

If you’re like most homeschool families, your days are full already. But don’t worry—celebrating Easter doesn’t have to mean adding a huge to-do list. Small, intentional steps can help your children understand the power and beauty of the resurrection.

  • Start by building rhythms into your homeschool day:
  • Add a short Easter hymn to your morning time.
  • Use a daily Bible reading plan during Holy Week.
  • Add copywork or narration using Easter Scriptures.
  • Even just five minutes a day can shift your family’s focus toward Jesus.

Hands-On Easter Activities for Families

Kids remember what they do. That’s why hands-on experiences are so powerful—especially when teaching about Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Here are a few simple activities you can try at home:

Resurrection Rolls

Resurrection rolls are a family favorite. Wrap a marshmallow (symbolizing Jesus’ body) inside biscuit dough. Dip it in butter and cinnamon sugar, and bake. When you bite into the roll after baking, it’s empty—just like the tomb on Resurrection Sunday

It’s a delicious object lesson for all ages. This is a family tradition that continues with our grandkids.

Resurrection Eggs

Buy or make a set of resurrection eggs. Each plastic egg contains a small item that represents a part of the Easter story—like a purple cloth, crown of thorns, or cross. How can you use resurrection eggs?

  • Let your children open one egg each day of Holy Week and read the related Scripture together.
  • Let your children open up each egg and tell the Easter story themselves.

Easter Garden

My grandkids loved building their own Easter garden. You can make it with real flowers or artificial flowers. The one below was made by my oldest granddaughter when she was 3 years old.

Make an Easter Garden to help put Christ back into Easter

Let your kids be creative as they build a mini garden with your kids using dirt, rocks, and flowers. Be sure to include a small tomb made from a pot with a stone in front of the pot.

On Saturday night, after the kids go to bed, remove the stone from your Easter garden. When your kids wake up, the stone is rolled away and the tomb is empty. This is a great way to visually teach the resurrection story.

Celebrate Holy Week with Easter School

Easter can go beyond Bible time. Besides the homeschool ideas to use with your set of Resurrection Eggs, make Holy Week, Easter School with these activities.

History: Study the Jewish Passover and its connection to Jesus’ final days. Study the feasts at Easter time.

Science: Learn about blood moons and eclipses around the time of the Crucifixion. Use the Skies of the Cross bundle for videos, a timeline project and more homeschool ideas for Holy Week.

Language Arts: Let your kids write the Easter story in their own words. As they get older, allow them to journal their thoughts. Younger kids can narrate (or tell back) what they learned from your daily Scripture reading.

Reading: Choose from a variety of Easter story books to read aloud or have your children read one independently.

Be creative and make Holy Week all about Easter. As you have Easter school, these cross-subject lessons can give depth to what your children, are learning while reinforcing their faith.
