There are so many benefits of using a thankfulness journal, especially for children. If you’re like me, then you probably think that keeping a gratitude journal is for adults, but this certainly isn’t the case! Keep reading to learn my top three ways children can benefits from keeping a thankfulness journal.

What is a thankfulness journal?
In a nutshell, a thankfulness journal is just a notebook used to document all things thankful and gratitude related. This can be done using a number of things:
- documenting thankful and grateful thoughts
- writing Scriptures that are directly related to thankfulness and gratitude
- prayers about being thankful and gracious
- drawings, illustrations, and/or photos that remind you of thankfulness
When I use my journal, I am super flexible and laid back with no set blueprint or structure. It’s more of a thankfulness dump. If you choose to adopt using a thankful journal, especially for your children, let them use their creativity and make it their own.
3 Benefits of Using a Thankfulness Journal
Using a thankfulness journal helps foster an attitude of gratitude.
Fostering an attitude of gratitude can be hard, especially in this day and age. Using a journal can help your children learn how to focus on the good that happens in their lives more than the bad that may be going on around them.
A thankfulness journal can help teach your children what the Bible says about being thankful.
The Bible is filled with so many Scriptures and stories about being thankful. Have your children choose particular verses or even read accounts of men and women who experienced thankfulness despite life’s circumstances. Prompt them to consider what the verse or passage means to them and how they can apply it to their life.
Keeping a thankfulness journal can also serve as a diary of sorts.
I may be telling my age here, but I kept a diary when I was a little girl. It may be one of the reasons why I continue to journal as an adult. Adding thankfulness journaling can be a unique way for your children to learn how to keep a diary.
