Owl Moon is one of my favorite books to read at any time of year. I discovered Owl Moon at our public library, when my kids were young. I quickly fell in love with it. As I worked on this blog post, Hunter walked by & I asked if he remembered “this” book (pointing to Owl Moon). He grinned & said “yes”! So, I knew I had to share one of our favorite Owl Moon read aloud & snack for your family.
Have you ever read this fascinating story of a dad who takes his son “owling” on a winter night. It’s a beautiful story of father and son sharing a special moment. I highly recommend the Owl Moon read aloud with the real book. If that’s not possible, watch this read aloud below.
OK…this is posting in the summer and not the time to go owling. But, wouldn’t you love some cool weather to see the owls soar. We can always enter into another world as we read this beautiful story.
When we were in Washington in September (yep, it was warm), we saw an owl soar above us in the rain forest. It was gorgeous. You can see beautiful images in the Owl Moon read aloud, as well.
Another time, we took to Lake Coeur D’Alene to watch owls…in the dead of winter.
We left the dock early in the morning & hoped we didn’t freeze. It’s cold on an Idahoan lake in January. Thank goodness there was a cabin that sold hot chocolate.
Although it took awhile, we finally saw owls from our boat. They weren’t as close as the owl in Owl Moon. However, we loved seeing them fly in the wild.

Follow these instructions and the images below.

- Dip large pretzel twist in melted white chocolate

- Add black jelly bean in middle and sprinkle sprinkles
Take a look at the variety of Owl Moon pretzels we had.
Too often, you only see the perfect craft or family winter activities online. When your kids make this Owl Moon activity, it probably won’t look perfect. But, that’s OK. They’ll have fun and making a terrific family memory.
