Since my childhood, I’ve sung this song hundreds of times.
What can wash away my sins?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Singing this song last night at Good Friday Service, opened my eyes to a Truth I had not considered. As we sang, I watched kids and families nail papers with “burdens that need healing” to a large cross. It reminded me of my burden cross in our living room that a friend gave me as I entered several years of suffering..
I meditated on a phrase we kept singing:
What makes me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus Christ.
His blood made the final payment for my sin.
His blood heals me from my wounds and hurts.
His blood frees me from my chains.
His blood makes me whole again.
I never really thought about the second question: What can make me whole again? I always stopped at having my sins washed away. Yet, Jesus’ blood does more than just cleansing my sin. His blood truly restores and makes me whole.
What do you do when your kids hurt themselves & need healing?
First, you must clean the wound. Get all the dirt and gunk out, so the wound begins to heal. Next, you treat the wound so it heals completely. Finally, you encourage your kids to avoid situations that would wound them again. Of course, they can’t avoid ever being wounded again. But, they can take precautions.
If you’re a mom, you understand this because you’ve treated many cuts and bruises.
Similarly in a spiritual sense, we have wounds that need healing. I don’t know about you, but I definitely have hurts deep inside. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’ve been living with death & rejection. Those wounds from death and rejection are deep and need healing. The only thing that will heal my spiritual and emotional wounds is the blood of Jesus: past, present, future.
I am cleansed from my sin – my sins are washed away: past.
I am healed of my sins and its effects – made whole again: present.
I am free from my chains of sin – made whole again: present & future.
Praise God He loves me so much He sent His Son, sacrificed His Son, and accepted Jesus’ blood as payment for my sins. The cool thing is He doesn’t stop there. He keeps loving me, even when I sin … over and over and over again. He keeps forgiving me each time I sin. He keeps making me whole again.
Why?
The blood of Jesus Christ.
As I sang last night, I thought of loved ones who know Jesus’ blood cleanses. Who acknowledge Jesus’ blood cleanses. Who believe Jesus’ blood cleanses their sin. Who are saved from their sins. His blood washes away their sin for eternnity.
without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins. Hebrews 9:22
But they do not allow Jesus blood to heal them, to free them, giving victory from their chains. Chains of shame. Chains of guilt. Chains for worthlessness. Chains of fear. Chains of pride. Chains of depression. Chains of failure.
He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. Ephesians 1:7
All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us. Revelation 1:5
How about you?
Do you let the blood of Jesus heal & free you from the chains of shame, guilt, worthlessness, fear, pride?
Only Jesus’ blood will free you and me from our chains. All the memorized verses won’t free us. All the self-help books in the world won’t do it. All the well-meaning friends won’t make us whole. All the counseling in the world won’t bring freedom. Just like the song says, “nothing but the blood of Jesus”.
I often cry to let His blood heal and free me each day. Then, I experience God’s peace in a way I’ve never experienced it. Jesus’ blood truly gives peace, freedom and victory.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. Colossians 1:20
Or like me, do you have loved ones who are chained by shame, guilt, worthlessness, depression, failure?
Only Jesus’ blood, allowing His blood to do its work, will heal and free them. I can’t make anyone trust in Jesus’ blood. Instead, God gives me the gift of prayer and love. Every day, I pray and love those who “believe” their sins are washed away, but don’t “experience” healing and freedom.
Once we let Jesus’ blood seep into our soul, penetrating every fiber of our being, we have victory, victory in Jesus. Check out this video to help you remember how the blood of Jesus offers healing, freedom and victory. For me, music allows me to remember better!
Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Hebrews 9:14
Practically Speaking
These past few years, I’ve declared the blood of Jesus more than any time in my life. Before that time, I took Jesus’ blood and payment for my sins for granted. Not any more! I praise God for Jesus’ blood and ask God to use Jesus’ blood in our lives.
What do I do?
Each morning I ask God to cover our family and friends with Jesus’ blood to protect us, to give us peace, to reconcile us to Him. Then, I ask God to enable us to walk in our shoes of peace . . . peace with God, peace with ourselves, peace with others. Peace only provided through the blood of the Lamb.
Praying those words as I start my day each morning may seem like a repetitive, empty act. But, prayer is God’s gift to me.
The gift to enter the King’s throne room as a child of the King. Enter the King’s throne room and humbly ask Him to cover our family in the blood of Jesus. For the blood of Jesus to heal all our loved ones.
PS. How does the blood of Jesus heal you, give you freedom and victory, or allow you to worship God?
