Free Life Skills Leadership Summit

Fire safety is important for all of us. Have you talked to your kids about a fire escape process it anything happened. I remember talking to our kids when they were young, telling them where we would meet in case of a fire. What other fire safety activities should you do with your family?

After you make these yummy fire truck graham cracker snacks, try one of our 3 fire safety activities for your kids.

When we talked to our kids about fire safety, I wish we had some fun fire prevention activities for kids – yummy! Your kids will love these because they involve . . . food!

My grandkids loved making & eating these cute fire trucks.  I even decided to make one myself. You can get all the directions below.

You’ll need graham crackers, mini oreos, pretzel sticks and frosting. I made the frosting from a simple powdered sugar recipe with red food coloring.

Create a Fire Escape Plan

One of the most important fire safety activities for kids is creating a fire escape plan. Sit down with your children and draw a map of your home, marking all the exits and escape routes. Make sure they know how to open windows and doors, and where to meet outside in case of a fire.

Practice the escape plan regularly so that it becomes second nature to them. This simple activity can save lives in case of an emergency.

  • Do you have a meeting place, in case of fire?
  • What’s your fire escape plan?
  • Do your kids know the plan?

Practice Stop, Drop and Roll

Stop, Drop, and Roll is a crucial fire safety skill that every child should know. Teach your kids that if their clothes catch on fire, they should stop where they are, drop to the ground, and roll back and forth until the flames are extinguished.

You can make this activity fun by having your kids practice with a stuffed animal or by pretending to be on fire themselves. This will help them remember what to do in case of an emergency.

Play a Fire Safety Game

Fire safety games are a great way to teach kids about fire prevention and what to do in case of an emergency. One fun game is to create a fire safety scavenger hunt where kids have to find and identify different fire safety items in the house, such as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and escape routes.

Another game is to have kids practice crawling low to the ground to avoid smoke inhalation by setting up an obstacle course with pillows and blankets. These games not only teach important fire safety skills, but they also make learning fun for kids.

Fire Safety Activities for Kids

I highly recommend visiting your local fire station. You might be surprised how much your kids will learn from these first responders. As a way of saying thank you to your firefighters, bake some cookies and take them with you.

If you’re not able to do so, watch this field trip video to the fire station.
