Making a cell pizza with the parts of an animal cell is a fun homeschooling activity that encourage your teens in their love of learning. Biology can be fun…really!
Whether you are doing high school biology or elementary health, making a pizza model of animal cells is fun. Using food is one of my favorite ways to encourage a love of learning in your kids.
Who doesn’t like eating and learning?
To make this activity simple for you, I’ve created our Cell Pizza Activity Guide that includes a complete listing of ingredients and what they symbolize. You’ll also get my simple, elementary 3-D model for a cell. Perfect for your younger kids.

I browned all the sausage and froze it for future meals.
You can use pre-made pizza sauce, but I made my own. Add garlic powder, basil, pepper to a can of tomato sauce…easy!
Spread sauce on the crust to represent cytoplasm. Leave a border of crust to resemble the cell wall.
Slice toppings. The ham piece was the hardest.
Place tomato & mushroom in center to symbolize nucleus & nucleolus.
Check out our free Cell Activity Guide to give you ideas for each of the organelles as food items.
Bake your cell pizza in your oven. Follow directions for the crust you use.
After baking, allow kids a chance to identify the organelles. Then … Eat & Enjoy!
Other methods to encourage your kids to enjoy learning in their homeschool studies, besides food, include videos. In less than 3 minutes, you can review parts of an animal cell and what they do for animals.
To help you remember the parts of an animal cell, sing this parts of the cell song daily.
