Reading the Bible is important all year long, but especially as we teach our kids to be thankful. November is the perfect time to remind and teach our kids to be thankful by using a Bible study on Thanksgiving.
First, I recommend choosing one verse your family will memorize. On Thanksgiving Day, recite that verse together. Allow your kids to share what that verse means to them.
Next, I recommend working through a Bible study on thanksgiving with your family. If your kids are older, they can work on their own and discuss what they find at dinner once or twice a week. If your kids are younger, read one or two thanksgiving Bible verses at dinner each night. Take a few minutes to discuss the questions.
You might want to start with these thanksgiving Bible verses .
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
I Chronicles 16:34
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Psalm 107:8-9
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17
Ask your kids a few questions like these. Or, make up your own.
- What are we to be thankful for?
- Who are we to give thanks to?
- Why are we to give thanks
The following day, let your kids use one of the verses for copywork.
To help you focus on thanksgiving, I’ve compiled more Thanksgiving Bible verses you can use in your Bible study on thanksgiving.
I want to give it to you. And it’s free for you!
It’s a word study on “eucharisteo”, the Greek word for thanks. You’ll find more questions about eucharisteo you can use with your kiddos. Next you’ll have a chart for all the verses where this word is used in the New Testament.
When you finish the study, you might let each child choose their favorite of the verse to share at the Thanksgiving table.
Bible Study on Thanksgiving
Be sure to let your kids do this study with you. It is a great tool for your high schoolers to learn how to do a word study in the Bible.
In conclusion, you will find a few follow-up questions so you & your kids can apply the truths of eucharisteo. Let it be your Bible in homeschooling from now until Thanskgiving … or even afterwards.
