How to Use Essential Oils

After recording Tuesday’s workshop, I found more ways to use essential oils. On Monday morning, I found a stye on my eye. Oh no!

I remember giving Gentry a warm, wet rag to help flush out the infection when she was young, so I immediately heated water in the microwave and dipped a wash cloth. (There is no hot water from the sinks here in El Salvador)

Then, I started thinking about which oil to apply.

My first thought was Frankincense, but I left it at home. I only had lavender, on guard & peppermint. There was no way I would put peppermint near my eye!  So, I rubbed lavender around the edge of my eye. About 1 drop every 15 – 30 minutes. Within a couple of hours, my stye was reduced by half.

I know I should have taken pictures, but I didn’t think about it.

By the time I went to bed on Monday, my eye felt better. It was still a little puffy, but not as red.

On Tuesday morning, my eye barely hurt.  It was a bit puffy, so I applied lavender oil near the edge.  I also used a warm, wet washcloth to help flush the infection.

It’s Wednesday & I don’t feel any pain in my eye, nor do I see any puffiness.  Awesome! Lavender really works.

You might wonder what amount to apply. It’s better to apply less, more often.  In other words, you will get more benefit from applying 1 drop of oil, every 15 minutes, than 4 drops every 1 hour.  Why is that so?  When you apply 4 drops of oil, your body can’t use all of the health benefits, so it flushes out the amount it can’t use.  So, you’re wasting oil.

If you have a hard time remembering to apply 1 drop every 15 minutes, set a timer on your phone.  That’s how I remembered when my kids were young & homeschooling. We had so much going on that an hour could fly by and I might forget a medication.

If you’re looking for natural solutions to stay healthy, or need a medicine cabinet makeover, you should start with doTERRA Family Physicians Kit. It has a sampling of the most-used oils, so you can try them when your kids are sick.  I know they work. They’ve been working since the Pharoahs, since Jesus and since the Black Plague.

Essential oils are the perfect natural solution to prepare for emergencies, as well as keep your family healthy.
