Easter Treats – Birds Nests {Monday Meals}

how to simplify your homeschool

I still remember the first time we made Easter bird nests.  Hunter & I were making them.  He loved forming the mixture into nests . . . and eating them afterwards.  Yesterday I told Hunter & Gentry I needed to make bird nests for my blog.  They both grinned at me and reminded me how much they like bird nests.

When I make a similar recipe at Christmas, Hunter still calls them bird nests.  They don’t look anything like a bird nest, but that’s what he calls them.

Here’s our Easter birds nests recipe:

Easter Treats - Easter Birds Nests Recipe - IngredientsAnother simple Easter activity with only 3 ingredients:  Butterscotch Chips, Chow Mein Noodles & candy eggs.  We’re using peanut M&M’s, but have used jelly beans in the past. Easter Treats - Easter Birds Nests Recipe - ChipsPour the bag of butterscotch chips into a microwaveable bowl.

Easter Treats - Easter Birds Nests Recipe - MeltMelt the chips by cooking on high about 30 seconds at a time.  Every 30 seconds, stir the chips to be sure they don’t overcook.

Easter Treats - Easter Birds Nests Recipe - Chow Mein NoodlesAdd 2 cups chow mein noodles. Stir until the noodles are coated by the melted butterscotch.

Easter Treats - Easter Birds Nests Recipe - ScoopI line a cookie sheet with wax paper.   Scoop big globs of the mixture on to wax paper.  Your bird nest will be the size of your “glob”.

Easter Treats - Easter Birds Nests Recipe - PressI rinse my hands with water so the melted chips don’t stick to my fingers.  Gently press into the center of each bird nest.  Make an indention for the eggs.

Add your candy eggs to each nest.  Once again, I used peanut M&Ms and turned down the symbol on each candy.

I must confess I snacked a little too much while making these Easter birds nests.  Too yummy!

I saved the completed nests for tonight’s pre-Easter dessert.
